I am always saddened by couples who choose not to invest in a professional wedding video and I believe it is primarily because they simply don't understand what they are missing out on…

Even though wedding videos have been around for a while now they are still generally perceived as a relatively new service when compared to photography which traditionally was the only way to adequately preserve your wedding day, so there seems to be the general consensus that photography is a “must-have” and video is “optional.”

With the advancements in video equipment and software however, professional wedding videos these days are so much more than the old sub-standard wedding videos old Uncle Frank filmed with his little handy-cam and if you stop and think for a moment about the purpose of both mediums you will start to understand why wedding videography is fast becoming as vital a service for your wedding as photography is and for some couples, even moreso.

Consider this…

Some years down the track your children ask you about your wedding day so you walk to your cupboard and find your wedding photos and your wedding video. Your photos are beautiful, but they only show “moments” from your wedding whereas your video shows your wedding day in its entirety... So which medium do you think you’ll choose to show your children?

“A wedding video is so much more than a moment captured; it is the sights, sounds and emotions.”

In saying the above I am in no why undermining the value of photography and I am definitely not suggesting that you should hire a videographer instead of a photographer, I merely wish to illustrate the value of both. If it’s a budgetary matter, why not consider splitting your budget between video and photography, as I assure you it’s a decision you won’t regret... and don’t just take my word for it, ask other couples who have been married. To further demonstrate my point, I highly recommend that you watch the videos within this same article on our Web Blog (just click on the "How will you remember and preserve your wedding day?" post from July). The first is of a couple who chose not to hire a wedding videographer and the subsequent videos are of couples who did…the difference speaks for itself!

So many times I have heard stories of couples who regretted not having their wedding filmed... and conversely, the only regrets I have heard when it came to couples who did get a wedding video, was that they had a friend film it and not a professional - as the difference between a home-made and a professional video is not even worth the time to compare.

At the moment the worldwide trend is moving more and more towards video as couples start to recognise the value of wedding videography, just look around the internet now and the millions of videos online, especially on websites such as you-tube, facebook and more. Your wedding is a day you have been waiting for your whole life and will be one of the most memorable and substantial… so isn’t it worth preserving properly so you and future generations can relive it and enjoy it for years to come??

Brides and Wedding Videos: The Surprising Survey Results

The Wedding & Event Videographers Association International, wanted to know how brides felt about wedding videos so they hired a wedding industry marketing firm to survey 500 brides who were married in 2005. You can find the full article on our web Blog (again, just click on the "How will you remember and preserve your wedding day?" post from July); but here are the main points:

A whopping 98% of brides said that they would recommend to future brides to have their wedding videotaped.

A surprising discovery was major shift in attitude about the importance of a wedding video…AFTER the wedding.

When asked, before the wedding, to list their “Top Ten” wedding services, only a little more than 50% of brides placed wedding videos on the list. However, after the wedding, that percentage jumped to 75%. Brides who didn’t have their weddings videotaped by anyone, made up 38% of respondent brides. An obvious level of regret may be interpreted from the fact that 63% of these brides now either somewhat or strongly recommended that future brides hire a professional videographer.

Those brides who reported using a professional videographer expressed their belief that video is better at capturing a moment in time where family come together for a unique purpose. The wedding video then becomes a piece of family history that can be shared with family members not fortunate enough to be there…like children and grandchildren.
